Q: What does mixed finish mean? Does it require sealing?
A: Our Montauk collection includes both satin and matte finishes in each box. Sealing may be necessary depending on the installation. -
Q: An this tile be used in the floor?
A: This material is not suitable for floor installation.A: No. Absolutely not suited for floors. -
Q: I got a few samples of the Sky color. They seem gray on the wall, regardless of time of day. If you've installed Sky do you find that they read gray vs. soft blue?
A: It does have a grey tone, but with soft blue green hints. It is a lovely tile and the mix of satin and high gloss tiles give it something special.A: IMO Leans gray but works with blue and green.A: Soft blueA: On first look it does read grey but the subtle blue starts to come out with various appliances and decorations. It’s beautiful. -
Q: how do u clean it?
A: Ceramic tile is resistant to germs and bacteria and it is also among the easiest of flooring materials to clean. You can clean your ceramic tile with a damp sponge mop. A solution of 1/4 cup of white vinegar to 2 gallons of water works best – allow time for drying. You can also sweep or vacuum. Although ceramic tile is by definition impervious, it is still possible for its surface to discolor. The following instructions explain how to clean ceramic tile surfaces.
For cleaning unpolished surfaces, follow these instructions:
Sweep or vacuum dust and debris from the floor. When sweeping, use a soft-bristle broom and sweep in 2 directions. First follow the direction of the tile, and then sweep diagonally. This will ensure the removal of all foreign material that might be residing in the texture.
Saturate the tile with a neutral cleaning solution, such as vinegar, with hot water and stir. Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the floor 5 – 10 minutes. Scrub the floor with a brush; again using a two-direction method.
Rinse the floor with clean, clear water to remove the cleaning solution.
For high traffic locations, it is recommended to clean the floor at least once per day and wet mop at regular intervals.
Always Remember:
Do not clean tile flooring with ammonia or with cleaners that contain bleach and/or acid. Acid and ammonia based cleaners may modify grout color.
Do not use wax, oil-based, abrasive cleaners, or sealants.
Agents that contain any dyes or colors are not recommended.
Use rugs at entrances to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked onto the tile flooring from outdoors.
Do not use steel wool pads, because loose steel particles may create rust stains in the grout.A: It wipes clean very easily with a microfiber clothA: I just wipe it clean with water. Sometime with vinegar water. Easy to clean.A: Warm water and liquid soap. Used as kitchen backsplash. Really doesn’t get dirty, unless I splash something while cooking. The surface is easy to clean.A: Conventionally; sponge and water, disinfectant if necessary. Yes, the non-flat surface requires a little extra attention as you work, but it does not provide crevices in which dirt collects. It's just tile with a wavy surface. -
Q: What color grout did you use for the Montauk Sky?
A: We suggest the Laticrete Permacolor Bright White Grout.A: Warm white grout. It is gorgeous!A: I just wanted to come back and answer this (since I asked) and update that we used non-sanded rolling fog from the big box store. It turned out great and blends very subtly with the tile. Thanks for the all the answers!A: I used white grout. Very happy with the results.A: I used a light gray grout - we picked it out from the local big box home improvement, it’s perfect for the there/not there look.A: Used TEC dove grey. Q: how strong is the sheen? it looks extremely shiny but im not sure if that's just the picture. i like a slight sheen but not something that's too shiny
A: I would suggest ordering samples so you can see the material in person since it is subjective. -
Q: Is this really 2" x 8"? On screen it looks like it has to be 2" x 6"? Otherwise the math on 3 tiles across and 9 up doesn't work?
A: My tile actual measurement is 2 1/2 x 7 7/8A: Hey Jerryd - I ordered and installed this tile a couple months ago and the exact measurement is 2.5"x 7.75". Hope this helps!A: Hi, the tiles measure approximately 2 1/2 x 7 3/4. -
Q: Has anyone tried pairing this with a carrara mosaic?
A: Have not tried this pairingA: As a designer my answer would depend on exactly how you’d be pairing it and which size Carrara mosaic. If it’s a smaller size mosaic; small squares, sheets of linear cuts, or basket weave o believe it would be too busy. The mountain in sky has a metallic sheen along with a lot of texture - giving you all the detail that you need in a look. However, the montauk and Carrara, as a pairing, would give you a beautiful, relaxing, upscale spa feeling.A: I’m doing it now. Looks beautifulA: Haven’t tried that but I’m sure it would look nice. -
Q: Is there a pencil trim that coordinates with Montauk gin and montauk sky?
A: Yes, but it is not on this site. I used a clear glass pencil with white back at the end of cabinets over peninsula.,A: We just bought this tile and instead of doing the pencil trim, we used the bull-nosed edge to finish it all off.A: I have no idea. I would think that TILE BAR would be able to get that info for you.A: I used London White Pencil Liner with Lori Dennis Mesa Blanco wall tile. Both Mesa Blanco and Montauk Sky are blue tinged white tiles. The London White provided a small bit of contrast to the Mesa Blanco which was just fine at the transition to a wall painted Restful White (yellow tinged white)A: There is a 2x8 bullnose for a finished edge, but no pencil.A: No. Had to install using a schluter strip -

I absolutely love this tile!! I almost didn?t get it because when I got the sample it didn?t look like the photos as much. But once they are all together you can see the details of this gorgeous tile. I do wish I used a darker grout tho. The light grey blends them a little too much and a darker one would make it stand out a little more. The tile looks different depending on the lighting which gives it so much character. It?s so unique.

Very beautiful tile! We used the Gin color as well and love both! Be aware that there are some more shimmery ones scattered about, so make sure your installer knows to spread them around so that they're not all clumped together in one spot.
