Handmade with perfect imperfection

The Emery White 4x8 Handmade Glossy Terracotta Tile is a testament to tradition. These subway tiles are crafted using centuries-old techniques; they’re handmade and twice-fired in a wood-burning kiln. Emery’s rich, milky white color and perfectly imperfect appearance provides a first-rate example of fine craftsmanship.

Artisanal heritage

No two hand-hewn terracotta tiles are perfectly alike: it’s an asset, not a flaw.

Sustainable production techniques

Purified clays and a natural drying process are used to produce this collection.

Beauty is the product of patience

The handcrafted tiles of the Emery collection are made using deliberately slow production techniques, with each tile taking more than 30 days from start to finish. The patience shown by ceramics masters yields brilliant colors and artisanal surfaces. Made sustainably in Italy, this collection features five colorways in square and subway formats, allowing you to mix and match for endless pattern and palette possibilities.

Masterful artistry coveted by all

The master ceramicists who create the Emery collection do so in a meticulous, traditional method that has been passed down for generations. The process begins with high-quality rock clay. Once purified, it is pressed into wooden molds, then left to air dry for several weeks. Once dry, the clay is fired in a wood burning kiln for 36 hours, hand glazed, and fired again for 20 more hours. Pre-sealing helps protect it from moisture damage, stains, and general wear.

  • ★★★★★ Backsplash is stunning and very unique!

We ordered this tile and some of the tiles were broken and tilebar immediately sent us a replacement box. The tile is absolutely stunning and I couldn't be happier with it. It's so beautiful that we don't want to put anything back on the counter to cover it.
