General Notes

  • All installations should refer to the most current TCNA manual. Tile Council of North America 864.464.8453 Home - The Tile Council of North America (tcnatile.com)
  • All TileBar installation instructions are suggestions. Specific installation questions should be brought to a local tile professional.
  • Follow directions on all materials, especially mixing quantities.
  • Inspect all materials before using to make sure there are no defects. Installation is acceptance, material claims will not be entertained after install.
  • Blending different boxes of tile is recommended before and during installation.
  • Ensure proper Safety – PPE (ex: Gloves)
  • Q: Can this be installed without grout? That's what it looks like on the screen, and it looks nice. Wanted to verify though.

A: I actually used this tile to make a couple of tables. I always use grout even doing backsplash, but narrow lines. I believe it provides a better seal for cleaning, especially backsplash where you have grease and food spatters.

    Norma J.

A: Mine were installed without grout in between tiles. I love it!!!

    Lynda H.

A: These are beautiful ceramic tiles; they are installed with grout. You may be able to use a good sealant type glue but my contractor used grout to install as an accent in the shower.

    Librada C.

A: We did a thin grey grout which makes it look as pictured.

    Rachel H.

  • Q: Can this be used as fireplace tile?

A: This tile would be great on a fireplace surround!

    TileBar C.

A: As a surround yes. Just not inside the firebox.

    John K.

A: Yes if you’re really into this color I think it would be pretty

    Cheryl P.

  • Q: What color grout to use?

A: Our recommended grout is the Laticrete Permacolor Slate Gray Grout- 8lb

    Ayelet R.

    A: Dark grey

    Rachel H.

A: The slate gray looks wonderful

    Tristen J.

A: I used dark gray and it's perfect for this color of tile.

    Faye R.

A: I used a dark gray from Tile Bar, and I love it! It was the one Tile Bar recommended.

    Karen A.

  • Q: How can I tile over painted walls? Do I just need to sand/ rough up the wall?

A: Tile must be installed over a suitable substrate in accordance with TCNA guidelines to insure a proper installation. Tile should be installed over a clean, sound, and flat surface, free of contaminates including curing compounds. Substrate should be free of cracks. If used in a wet area you must waterproof.

    Sara K.

  • Q: Is this tile rated for steam shower application?

A: This is suitable for steam shower installation.

    Sara K.

  • Q: In the first two picture examples, can detail be provided for the vast difference in color? (Horizontal Layout vs Bathroom image-Vertical Layout)

A: The lighting makes all the difference. Whether we have our lights on at night, or daylight in the kitchen, the tile is gorgeous. If in doubt- order a sample. Our sample and our actual order were completely consistent. Ours is installed vertically and it looks exactly like the video. Monitor color can make a difference too. That's why I recommend a sample.

    Gail C.

A: This tile is definitely turquoise/teal - not medium blue

    Dara B.

A: No idea why there would be a color difference. We really like this tile. Wish I could add a photo how we used it in our bathroom.

    John B.

A: the vertical is more accurate. It's more denim than turquoise.

    Tahiti P.

A: I would say the tile is a lot less blue and much more teal. I was a little dissapointed at first but the color is lovely.

    Germaine S.

A: We have our tile as a backsplash and we love it. I don’t see any difference in the color of the tiles.

    Kay M.

A: It might just be a lighting difference. My tiles match the color of the ones in the horizontal layout photo (mine are installed in a herringbone pattern).

    Jennifer D.

A: The first picture of the field of tile is much more accurate for true color. It's more turquoise than blue (2nd picture). The color is printed on so there is about 5 different tiles, so you need to mix up the tiles so not to repeat a pattern. If you look at photo one carefully you will see tiles that are identical. We did kitchen back splashes with a brown grout and it they turned out awesome.

    Stephen S.

  • Q: How do you remove the protective coating on the face of these tiles?

A: It's more of a plastic buffer than attached to the tile itself to keep the tile faces from scratching against the unfinished backs. For ones that are a little more adhered, just use a credit card to scrape it off. For my lot, there were very few that needed more than just brushing off.

    Erin S.

A: It just peels off with your finger

    James V.

A: If you mean the thin squiggly lines of hot glue you can use a plastic scraper or your finger nails.
It should come off quite easily.

    corey J.

  • Q: Can this be used on the floor of a bathroom? Not in the shower, just on the rest of the bathroom floor.

A: The tile is a bit rustic/wavy and may not feel good with bare feet. It would also be very slippery when wet due to its glossy surface

    Stephen S.

A: This tile is not recommended for floor use.

    Aimee B.

A: No, I would not recommend this tile on the floor. It has a very high gloss finish that will make it very slippery. We are using the tile as wall accent in our kitchen and it is absolutely gorgeous!

    Gail C.

A: I would not use this tile on the floor. The website should state recommended uses and I dont believe floors are one of them. I would recommend it for showers or backsplash.

    Ingrid U.

A: I wouldn't use it on the floor. It's heavily glazed, so it would be slick. Also, the surface is that of man-made tiles, so it's not totally flat. In a bathroom, that would make it difficult to clean. Plus, the edges are imperfect, which is part of this tile's charm, but that means it would be unglazed so you'd have potential problems with cracking or cleanliness (a great place for bacteria to grow in a damp spot). This is my favorite tile in my house, but it's best on a wall.

    Margaret M.

A: I wouldn’t use on floor because the tiles are not perfectly flat. There are some slightly raised edges and this is attractive to me on a back splash but it would be uncomfortable to walk on.

    Carol T.

  • Q: Can this tile be used on the outside of a commercial pizza oven? Pizza oven can reach a temperature of 650 degrees.

A: Yes, this tile can be used around a pizza oven.

    Aimee B.

A: Contact the manufacturer of this tile for the temperature tolerance. I would assume that these tiles would be fine to be outside to Pizza oven because When this tile was Initially manufactured they where subject & exposed to a heating element higher temperatures than a pizza oven. But, to be 100 % sure I would recommend contacting the manufacturer. Nothing to do with your question, these tiles are even more beautiful in person.

    Jean M.

A: I used on a gas fireplace and it looks great; gets warm but not direct heat

    larry S.

  • Q: I am thinking of this tile for my kitchen backsplash. What color paint did you pair with the tile? (Cabinets will be analytical gray; counters are a flecked white quartz.) Thanks!
Also, what color grout did you use?

A: I would love to know what color you chose as this is exactly what I am doing!

    Sue W.

A: We used these for our backsplash. Love them. We used a brown grout to match the browns in the tile. White walls. Lower cabinets are a dark grayish brown and uppers are white. We layed the tile stacked rather than staggered. these tiles are printed, but you can't tell. there's about 5 different prints so you need to make sure you don't but like tiles next to each other.

    Stephen S.

A: I paired the blue with an occasional castle white tile and used white grout. I used a multi colored tile as a border (I was doing a small powder room) with brown in it, so I painted the walls "vanilla Paste" which is a slight yellowly/brown/white.

    Cindy P.

    A: Hello,
I used a charcoal gray grout and similar color paint .
    Sean

    Sean L.

A: The grout is a light brown /mocha in a tube from lowes , easy to apply , my cabinets are dark brown and the walls are canvas and granite is a lighter brown . The tile is beautiful !

    Martha M.

A: The paint is a grayish beige and rhe countertops are soapstone. Cabinets are medium/dark oak. I love the tile. We used dark gray grout.

    William B.

A: My backsplash is all this color with the dark brown wood stain like the salt and pepper shakers in the stock picture. The rest of my kitchen is a pale blue/green (though not much of it is actual wall). I used the grey in the photo, and it's superb.

    Margaret M.

A: We used a white shaker cabinet, soft Gray paint, and deloren gray grout. This back splash really pops with under cabinet lighting, looks a little dark with the lights off.

    James V.

A: I used “sophisticated teal” HDC-CL-22 from Home Depot Decorators Collection. I used enamel/glossy paint but regret not getting flat or eggshell because it’s too glossy. It was the best match I could find at the time. I used grey grout which looks just as in the photo. I LOVE my backsplash.

    Carol T.

A: The light grey grout that tilebar recommends with it. These tiles are great looking!!! My cabinets are dark brown

    edward D.

A: This is gorgeous tile! I used it in a new bathroom. My house is Victorian and I used it on the walls around my claw foot tub as a dado (wainscoting). I chose a lighter tone aqua/teal for the walls above the dado and a copper ceiling tile. The dove grey grout looks amazing with it all.

    Pamela C.

A: My cabinets are a soft white, and the walls are a warm gray. My counters are a blue and brown flecked quartz. I used the French gray grout which is a dark grout which matches the edge of the tile.

This tile has a unique color, and the shiny finish is very nice on the rustic-looking coloring. We used it as the backsplash wall in our laundry room.
