In this article we’re going to talk about how to clean unpolished porcelain tile. With no shiny surface you need to make sure you’re doing the right thing to keep it looking fantastic. Keep reading for our top tips.

Since this type of finish doesn’t have the same protective coat that polished porcelain has, you’ll want to make sure that the solution you use is gentle. A vinegar solution can still work here, but you can also look for a commercial-grade, gentle solution to proceed with even more caution.

Here are the steps for cleaning an unpolished porcelain tile:

  1. Sweep

Sweep your floors thoroughly. You want to make sure to get rid of any dirt, dust, or grime that may be present. Also, remove any furniture from the areas you’ll be cleaning.

  2. Cleaning Solution

Grab your bucket and fill it up with 1 gallon of hot water then stir in ¼ cup of white vinegar. Or, use a gentle commercial-grade cleaner (following instructions on label).

  3. Mop

Go on and mop the floor. Or use a large sponge. It’s up to you and what you’re most comfortable with.

  4. Dry

Finally, wipe off with clean water (not your solution) and dry with a towel.

Do’s and Do Nots for Tile Cleaning

There are some definitive dos and don’ts when it comes to porcelain tile floor cleaning. Let’s quickly review them so that you’re ready to go.

Do’s

  • Make sure to always rinse the area and sweep before cleaning.

Don’ts

  • Don’t use cleaners that have acid or chlorine since it could hurt the intrinsic coloring of tiles (especially for patterned porcelain tiles).
